DAR-DAR
Paul Urkijo Alijo / 10 min. / Spain / 2020
What does a little girl do when a demon shows up in the fireplace and demands a special price to let her live? Spanish Paul Urkijo Alijo delivers a stylish fairy tale from the Basque Country and manages to use the aesthetics of the silent film to make the horror both condensed and nerve-wracking.
THE RELIC
J.M. Logan / 14 min. / USA / 2020
A group of adventurers in search of a mythological artifact find more than they had hoped for in J.M. Logan’s intense ‘The Relic’. The film is intended as the first chapter in a larger universe and is a wonderfully unpretentious declaration of love for Lovecraft and practical effects.
STUFFED
Theo Rhys / 19 min. / 2021 / United Kingdom
Araminta lives a solitary life among her stuffed animals. Her biggest desire is to stuff a human. As Bernie voluntarily responds to her ad, their fates are entangled in a both touching and grotesque love story. A love story told exclusively in song.
A TALE BEST FORGOTTEN
Tomas Stark / 5 min. / Sweden / 2020
Based on Helen Adam’s poem of the same name, Swedish Tomas Stark has created a visual murder ballad that makes a complicated technical grip seem simple and with few means creates an immensely effective doomsday atmosphere – and that in just five minutes.
SIGNIFICANT OTHER
Quinn George / 6 min. / USA / 2020
Abby is standing in the hallway, staring up at the ceiling. She can see a red circle. But why is it there? American Quinn George draws threads to David Lynch’s dreamy, metaphorical universes in the ambiguous and deceptively simple ‘Significant Other’.
ISKIOMA
Kostas Gerampinis / 15 min. / Greece / 2020
Greek Kostas Gerampinis mixes social realism and folk horror in an effective tale of a veterinarian called to a remote farm where a ram has become ill. ‘Iskioma’ is equal parts sociopolitical commentary and evocative horror.
YOU’RE DEAD HÉLÈNE
Michiel Blanchart / 25 min. / France, Belgium / 2021
It’s been a long time since Hélène died. But her ghost never left her boyfriend Maxime. Now, however, he is ready to move on. But how do you deal with a ghost? And what happens if she is not ready to accept the decision.
